Quality of Life

Hospice care is focused on providing relief from the pain and symptoms of a serious illness. The goal is to improve quality of life for patients and the families. Hospice can be provided in care facilities or the comfort of home.

Personalized Care

A comprehensive plan that addresses physical, emotional, spiritual, and financial needs can be made through the collaborative effort between the patient, family, and hospice team. The key is to reduce the discomfort of an illness and improve the patient's ability to enjoy life.

Family Support

With access to 24-hour professional care, hospice eases family anxiety by providing peace of mind and a chance to rest. Hospice also offers guidance and counseling during difficult times.

Confidence and Dignity

Some curative treatments can often be too painful or debilitating. Hospice is a solution in which families can focus on spending time with the patient and not dealing with the red tape and extensive procedures of a hospital environment.

What Is Hospice Care?

A Special Way of Caring

Hospice care is a specialized type of palliative care for people living with terminal illness. It focuses on providing relief from the symptoms and stress of a serious illness. The goal of palliative care is to improve quality of life for both patient and the family. Hospice emphasizes quality rather than length of life. Hospice neither hastens nor postpones death: it affirms life and regards dying as a normal process. Hospice enables patients and families to make the best decision for themselves.

Who is eligible for Hospice Care?

Patients who have a life-limiting illness if the disease runs its normal course, as certified by a physician, and have elected treatment goals directed towards relief of symptoms, rather than cure of the disease.

Who pays for Hospice Care?

Hospice care can be funded through Medicare/Medi-Cal, private insurance, HMOs or other managed care organizations, and private pay arrangements for those who qualify.

Does Hospice Care mean giving up?

Although a curative solution will no longer be pursued, hospice care means redirecting the primary focus of care to ensuring patients live the rest of their lives with comfort, dignity, support, and compassion.
